SCOTLAND fans were left scratching their heads after a bizarre mishap led them to believe one of Steve Clarke’s players was shown TWO yellow cards against Greece.
According to BBC‘s coverage of the game, Ferguson had received a yellow card for a late challenge 10 minutes into the tie, then went into the book AGAIN around the half hour mark.
Ferguson and McTominay lunged in and fouled Greece‘s Christos Tzolis in the first incident and a banner confirming Ferguson booking was added to the top of the screen.
But then 20 minutes later, the Bologna midfielder actually picked up his FIRST yellow card for an elbow on Vangelis Pavlidis.
Punters watching on were confused why the former Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies man was allowed to stay on the pitch.
Reacting on social media, one fan wrote: “How has Lewis Ferguson been booked twice and is still on the pitch 🤣🤣🤣”

Another asked: “Is it just me or has Ferguson been booked twice?”
A third commented: “Has Lewis Ferguson just been booked twice and not sent off?? 🤣🤣🤣”
A fourth added: “I swear Lewis Ferguson has been booked twice.”
The incident wasn’t exactly cleared up by Uefa or Opta as they initially stated that only one yellow card was issued – Ferguson’s elbow in the 30th minute.
However, it was then changed to two, with John McGinn believed to be the one who actually got booked in the earlier incident.
That’s despite him not actually being involved in the challenge.
It’s unclear exactly what happened but it’s being suggested the Aston Villa skipper was shown the yellow for dissent.
And although Ferguson wasn’t sent off, he was involved in a red card incident.
He was the player on the receiving end of Anastasios Bakasetas late challenge which resulted in him getting sent off.
Greece still managed to see out the game with a 3-2 win despite being reduced to 10 men late on.
But it didn’t matter too much in the end for Scotland as they can still finish top of the group with a win against Denmark on Tuesday after their shock 2-2 draw with Belarus in Copenhagen.
