Scott, Malone and Thomas-Dodd Lead Strong Caribbean Showing at USATF Throws Festival
Jordan Scott continued his impressive run of form in the men’s triple jump with another 17-metre leap to headline a strong showing by Caribbean athletes at the USATF Throws Festival on Saturday. The Jamaican produced a winning mark of 17.03m (-0.5 m/s) to top a competitive field, while Chantel Malone of the British Virgin Islands and Danniel Thomas-Dodd of Jamaica also delivered podium finishes in the long jump and shot put, respectively.
Scott, who has now recorded multiple 17m marks this season, led from start to finish in the triple jump. He was followed by Jah-Nhai Perinchief of Bermuda, who took second with a jump of 16.75m (-0.9 m/s). American Russell Robinson was a close third at 16.74m (-0.1 m/s), while Kaiwan Wilbert Culmer of The Bahamas placed fourth with 16.64m (-2.7 m/s).
In the women’s long jump, Malone was the class of the field. Despite a headwind of -1.8 m/s, she soared to 6.43m, outdistancing American Quanesha Burks (6.33m) and Nigeria’s Ese Brume (6.30m) to claim top honours.

Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd continued to build toward her 2025 World Championship campaign with a strong performance in the women’s shot put, finishing second with a season’s best throw of 19.15m (62’10”). She was only edged out by American standout Maggie Ewen, who threw 19.53m (64’1″) to win. Lloydricia Cameron, also of Jamaica, tied for fifth with Abby Moore of the USA at 18.12m (59’5½”) in a solid outing for the Caribbean throwers.

In the women’s triple jump, Jamaican Imani Oliver landed a third-place finish with a mark of 13.43m, trailing Cuba’s Davisleydi Velazco, who won with 14.32m, and American Mylana Hearn, who took second at 13.70m.
Meanwhile, in the men’s long jump, LaQuan Nairn of The Bahamas leapt 7.72m (-0.7 m/s) to finish fourth behind Americans Jeremiah Davis (8.00m), Cameron Crump (7.92m), and Will Williams (7.90m).
The festival served as a key warm-up for several elite Caribbean athletes ahead of their respective national championships and the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. For Scott, Malone, and Thomas-Dodd, the weekend’s results offered timely confidence boosts as they continue to round into top form.
