SEAN LEVEY has got the thumbs up from his old pal Aidan O’Brien to go for back-to-back wins in the St Leger.
The jockey, 37, will join forces with the Ballydoyle master once again in Britain’s oldest Classic at Doncaster on Saturday week, a year after the pair landed the race with Jan Brueghel.
With Ryan Moore out with a broken leg, and back-up rider Wayne Lordan requiring a ten-day whip ban to be overturned at appeal, it has left O’Brien without his two jockeys for the St Leger and over Irish Champions Weekend.
Christophe Soumillon has been drafted in to fill the void left by Moore and he is likely to head to Leopardstown to partner Delacroix in the Irish Champion Stakes.
That leaves Levey to partner either Derby winner Lambourn or Goodwood Cup hero Scandinavia on Town Moor.
The former has been backed into as short as 3-1 but the latter, who has rocketed up the Ballydoyle ranks this season, is the general 5-4 market leader.
Levey said: “My agent said I’m riding one of Aidan’s in the St Leger, but nothing has been confirmed which horse it will be. I was made available to ride, and they said yes, which was great.
“I’m unlikely to know until next week as to which horse I will ride as they often wait until late on to decide those sorts of things.
“It was an absolute privilege to ride a winner for them in the St Leger last year and I jumped at this opportunity.
“I’m looking forward to whichever horse I end up riding for them.”
Before trying to add a second St Leger success to his CV, Levey will bid to steer the Richard Hannon-trained Rosallion to a first Group One success of the campaign on his return to a mile in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp on Sunday.
Levey said: “He went up to York as the ground is going to go against him soon, but he is in good form.
“It was a long time since he had last run over seven furlongs, but he ran an incredible race.
“He has done nothing wrong in defeat this year and I think there is another big one in him.”
