A game high of 25 points coupled with 13 rebounds from Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon, helped to propel Old Road Daggers to a comfortable 79-65 triumph over Flyers 2 when they met in game one of their best of three playoff series in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) competition on Tuesday night.
Playing in the feature game of a double-header at the JSC basketball complex, Simon shot 10 of 25 for a 47 percentage in field goal attempts as he led Old Road to the important win. Simon had help from Devea Aaron who recorded 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists while Jesus Lopez contributed with 11 points, four rebounds and five assists off the bench.
In a losing effort, Amare Browne top-scored with 20 points for Flyers 2 while also grabbing three rebounds and picking up three assists. There were eight points each for Shavaun Francis and Delroy Foster with Francis also grabbing 10 rebounds and Foster picking up eight.

In Tuesday’s opening clash, Spanish Heat 2 emerged two-points victors in a thriller against Fearless Crew, winning the contest 66-64.
Fearless Crew was on top at the end of the first quarter, outscoring Spanish Heat 16-12. Spanish Heat however enjoyed a huge 22-14 second quarter triumph that eventually won them the game as they lost the third and fourth quarters 19-18 and 15-14 respectively.
Jesus Emmanuel led the charge for the victors, sinking 18 points and pulling 12 rebounds. Emmanuel had help from Charlie Daniel who picked up 15 points and 18 rebounds with Sandy Valdez hitting 10 points.
Rafiki Harris top-scored in a losing effort for Fearless Crew, hitting 21 points, grabbing nine rebounds and distributing six assists while Joel Christian and Takeem Martin had 15 and 14 points respectively. Martin also picked up 13 points.
