Defending champions Rising Sun Spartans, were heavily beaten in the opening round of the ACB Caribbean Parish League’s Sir Vivian Richards Thursday League, going under by 92 runs to Jennings Tigers.
Batting first, Jennings posted 187 for seven in their 20 overs with Dimitri Lucas hitting a top score of 42. Michael Haynes Dover and Paul Miller contributed with 29 and 24 points respectively. Glenton Williams and Grayson Cuffy then combined for seven wickets as Spartans were removed for 95 runs. Williams bagged four for 20 while Cuffy picked up three for 20. Kerry Mentore was best with the bat for Rising Sun with 47 runs.
Also on Thursday, Liberta Blackhawks got off to a winning start, beating Police by 82 runs when they met at Liberta.


Sent to bat after Police won the toss, Blackhawks amassed a massive 235 for five in 16 overs.
Hard-hitting Rahkeem Cornwall led the assault with a blistering 97 while there were scores of 50 from Joshua Grant, 42 from Kofi James and 35 from Hayden Walsh Jr. There were two wickets each from Kenrick Scott (2/42) and Richie Thomas (2/45).
The lawmen were then restricted to just 153 for nine in their 16 overs. Elvis Weaver led the charge with the ball for Blackhawks, picking up four wickets for 18 runs while Brent Joseph bagged three for 13.
There was victory as well for New Winthorpes Lions as they easily dismantled Mahico by 10 wickets.
Batting first, Mahico were all out for just 101 with J’Quan Athanaze making 27. Demari Benta (3/6) and Kadeem Henry (2/19), were the pick of the bowlers for Lions.
Led by Kadeem Henry who made 69 not out, Lions reached their target without loss. Jermaine Otto contributed with 27 not out.
