The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation (ABSF) has announced a four-member team to lead the country’s charge at the World Swimming Championships scheduled for July 24th to August 1st in Singapore, the first city in Southeast Asia to host the World Championships.
The team is headlined by 2018 Sportsman of the Year, Stefano Mitchell, who will compete in both the 50 meters and 100 meters freestyle events at the Singapore Sports Hub.
Mitchell will be accompanied by Naeem DeSouza in the men’s division with DeSouza set to compete in the butterfly event. He will swim in both the 50 meters and the 100 meters distances.
Two of the country’s top women competitors in Aunjelique Liddie and Bianca Mitchell round off the selection.



Liddie will swim in the 50 meters and 100 meters freestyle events while Mitchell will dive into the pool for the 50 meters and 200 meters freestyle.
“This distinguished team is composed of swimmers who have consistently demonstrated excellence, unwavering dedication, and the true spirit of national pride, earning their place among the world’s best,” the swimming federation wrote.
The team will be coached by veteran Wayne Mitchell, who brings years of experience and passion for the role. Also accompanying the athletes is Anna Mitchell, who will serve as the Team Manager, ensuring smooth coordination and support throughout the competition.
President of the ABSF, Edith Clashing, will represent the body at the World Swimming Congress on July 29th. She will also take up an assignment with the World Masters Championships as a member of the World Masters Technical Committee from Aug 5-15. The ABSF says it “remains committed to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of sportsmanship and excellence. Participation in the World Swimming Championships not only marks a significant milestone for our athletes but also highlights the continued growth of competitive swimming in Antigua and Barbuda”.
