Long-jumper Andrew Stone became the first Caymanian athlete to secure a medal at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.
Stone secured a bronze medal on 19 Aug. after leaping 7.37 metres.
This latest accomplishment is a major step in the 19-year-old’s career, which has been marked by a series of impressive firsts and record-breaking performances over the years.
Stone secured his first major medal at the 2022 CARIFTA Games, where he won gold in the under-17 long jump with a winning leap of 6.76m.
In 2023, Stone had a very busy year securing numerous gold and silver medals while setting international records.
He returned to the CARIFTA Games in April 2023 where he won the boys under-20 long jump, making him the only person outside of Kareem Streete-Thompson to secure back-to-back gold medals for Cayman at the Games.
A month later, Stone represented Mustang Track Club at the 31st Annual BAYTAF Classic where he won gold in the long- and high-jump events.
In July 2023, Stone competed at the NACAC Under-23 and Under-18 Championships, earning silver medals in both the high jump and long jump.
Stone achieved a significant milestone at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in August, where he broke the long jump meet record with a 7.70m effort, surpassing the previous best of 7.67 metres set by Richard Seklorwu of Ghana in 2015.
