Huntsville City FC opened its season with a 4-1 win against Chicago Fire II at SeatGeek Stadium, with Caymanian striker Gunnar Studenhofft putting a cap on the victory in his MLS NEXT Pro debut.
The last-minute goal by Studenhofft, who signed with Huntsville in the pre-season, emphatically justified the decision to to add him to the team.
The Cayman national team star was subbed in at the 75-minute mark, and it only took him 10 minutes to find the back of the net.
Studenhofft received a key pass from teammate Isaiah Jones at the half-line, culminating in a shot going into the bottom left corner.
He couldn’t have asked for a better start with his new team – first appearance and first goal after being subbed in.
Studenhofft is expected to play his second match with his new club on 15 March, against Chattanooga.
