The Lions Aquatic Centre was splashing with excitement on Friday, 13 June as the 2025 Inter-Secondary Swim Championship showcased bright young aquatic talent in Cayman.
Organised by the Department of Sports swim coaches – Chester Hurlston, Bryce Thompson and Joanna Manderson – and supported by the Department of Education Services, the event featured 10 participating schools competing across various age groups for both boys and girls.
The schools taking part were Cayman Prep High School, John Gray High School, Cayman International School, Clifton Hunter High School, First Baptist Christian School, Footsteps School, Home School Association, St. Ignatius High School, Triple C School and Creating Foundations School.
The meet comprised 40 events, with age classifications for competitors set at 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and 17 and over.
In the large schools category, Cayman Prep secured first place with an impressive 536 points.
John Gray claimed a strong second with 490 points, while CIS rounded out the top three with 406 points.
In the small schools division, the Home School Association emerged victorious, accumulating 151 points.
Footsteps earned second place with 129 points, followed by Triple C with 93 points.
Aaron Pollard, secondary physical education lead specialist at the Department of Education Services, told the Compass, “The Inter Secondary Swim Championship continues to represent the excellence of youth in the Cayman Islands, not just in athletic skill, but the values of discipline, teamwork and resilience.
“The Cayman Islands being surrounded by water, has a strong heritage for swimming, and the sport of swimming represents one of the best opportunities for sporting success on a regional and world stage as well for our Caymanian students to achieve their dreams through the pathway of sport.”
