By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Team Belize landed safely in Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday morning, ahead of this weekend’s Caribbean Cycling Union (CCU) Junior Road Championships. Chaperone Rita Matute née Thompson confirmed the delegation’s arrival, noting that the athletes are in good spirits and ready to represent the Jewel.


The regional competition will be staged at the Graeme Hall Course in Christ Church, a 5.7-kilometer circuit that will host cyclists from 18 Caribbean nations. Eight champions will be crowned across the Juvenile and Junior categories in both the Individual Time Trial (I.T.T) and Road Race (R.R) events.

Team Belize features six youth cyclists: Junior Division riders Keith Enwright, Devyn Major, Jamaal Tablada, Irene Baki, and Chelsy Gillett, along with Youth Division competitor Lliani Choto. The delegation also includes Cycling Federation of Belize President Glen Flowers, chaperone Rita Matute, and Alfred Parks Memorial Foundation Award recipient Ahmaad Cherrington.
The I.T.T is set for Saturday, August 30, followed by the Road Race on Sunday, August 31. Belize’s cyclists will compete in both events, gaining valuable international experience while showcasing their talent on behalf of the country.
The Cycling Federation of Belize emphasized the importance of regional participation, calling on Belizeans to support the team as they take on the Caribbean’s best.
