TEMPLEGATE returns with more eyecatchers from the weekend gone – and one big name to consider in the Charlie Hall this weekend…
THE FIRST LOOK
CHARLIE HALL CHASE (Wetherby, 2.57 Saturday)
THE REAL WHACKER each-way 12-1

THE REAL WHACKER won the Charlie Hall Chase last season so it’s a slight surprise that he’s as big as 12-1 to follow up at Wetherby on Saturday.
It’s true the likes of Hewick and Protektorat add a touch more quality than 12 months ago but that price looks too big each-way to me.
Patrick Neville knows this is probably The Real Whacker’s best chance of landing a nice pot this season and gave him a highly satisfactory warm-up over hurdles at Perth last month.
We know this trip and track are ideal from last year when he won this with a fair bit in hand.
There are 10 entered at the moment so three places are on offer – and that may not be the case come the weekend if they don’t all show up.
EYECATCHERS
Most read in Horse Racing
ZENNOR STORM (Kempton, October 22)
THERE was only a neck in it at the line but he quickened nicely off a modest pace and looked well ahead of this Class 5 level.
He’ll make a very smart handicapper over a mile and a bit further.
MY OPHELIA (Newbury, October 25)
WE can get excited about William Haggas’ £1.7m daughter of Wootton Bassett.
She took this contest under hands and heels without breaking sweat.
She got a mile in the mud so the Oaks trip looks a distinct possibility and I’ve had a little nibble at the 20-1 on offer for the fillies’ Classic.
CREST OF FORTUNE (Cheltenham, October 25)
HE’S only five and jumped well on this chase debut for Anthony Honeyball.
He travelled nicely and kept on well up the hill over 2m4f. There’s a lot more to come.
INCH HOUSE (Cheltenham, October 25)
HE drifted like a barge in the betting but ran well on this first outing for 10 months.
His jumping was good and he just ran out of juice two out. He’ll come on a bundle.
SUPREMELY WEST (Cheltenham, October 25)
HE was a big eyecatcher on debut for the Skeltons. Kept out of the back, he jumped nicely and stayed on in his own time up the hill for a never-nearer third.
There’s still some juice in his rating of 137.
