FORMER Manchester United wonderkid Ravel Morrison has claimed Ruben Amorim is “taking the p***” over Kobbie Mainoo after dropping him from his starting XI.
Mainoo is going through a difficult time at Old Trafford after losing his place in the team under Amorim.
He looked to be one of the club’s most exciting stars when he broke through from the academy in the 2023-24 season.
And he even became a key man for England and started the Euro 2024 final against Spain.
This season, however, he has failed to make a start in the Premier League and came close to leaving the club in the summer.
He has been restricted to substitute appearances in recent weeks but has been unable to get into a rhythm.
Mainoo has played 12 times in total this season but was left out of United’s matchday squad for their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa after picking up a calf injury.
Morrison knows what it’s like to break through at United but struggle to nail down a regular spot despite being tipped for greatness at Old Trafford.
And he accused Amorim of “taking the p***” with Kobbie, insisting he was a “top player” who needed more game time in order to flourish.
Speaking on the Filthy Fellas podcast, he said: “They’re taking the p***. He’s a top player isn’t he? I know you can’t really say it’s bad just coming on for a minute.

“But I don’t know if they brought him on just to take the p*** just for a minute because he should really be playing a lot more than that.”
Morrison appeared to be referencing United’s 2-1 win over Palace at the end of last month, when Mainoo was brought on in the final minute of stoppage time.
And he said the quality Mainoo displayed under Ten Hag and Southgate for England showed he was in desperate need of more gametime.
Morrison added: “He needs a run of games because you’ve seen the level he can play at. Do you know what I mean? But he does need a run of games.”
He then aimed a cheeky dig at his old club when asked if Mainoo was a good fit for Amorim’s current system.
Morrison replied: “You know what? I don’t know what system United play. I only watch Arsenal innit.”
Morrison only managed to play three times for United before leaving for West Ham in 2011.
He later had spells with Birmingham, QPR, Cardiff and Lazio after struggling to find his footing as a professional footballer.
He also was involved in some legal and personal issues which hindered his career. He currently plays for the Arabian Falcons in the UAE second division.
