World Athletics Championships 100 metres silver medallist Kishane Thompson and 4x100m relay silver medallist Tia Clayton were in top form at Saturday’s Miramar Invitational meet at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida.
Both captured the rarely run 150m on a day when Jamaica picked up an overall seven wins at the World Continental Silver Tour meet,
Thompson ran a world best, the fastest time ever over the 150m on a curved track, clocking 14.92 seconds to erase the previous mark of 14.97 set by Great Britain’s Linford Christie in 1994. Tapiwanashe Makarawu of Zimbabwe finished second in 14.96, with Jamaica’s Adrian Kerr third in 15.12.
The fastest time ever registered over the distance (150m) is 14.35 by Usain Bolt in 2009. This was, however, a straight track in Manchester, England. The time is faster because there was no curve to navigate.
In a Jamaican sweep of the top three spots, Tia won the women’s event in 16.87 ahead of Briana Williams (16.92), with World Championships 100m silver medallist Tina Clayton third in 17.00.
Also picking up wins for Jamaica were Lavanya Williams, Kerrica Hill and Ackeem Blake on the track, while Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Tajay Gayle were victorious in the field events.
Williams maintained her good season form after winning the women’s 100m in a wind-aided 10.88 (+2.6 mps), ahead of Liranyi Alonso of the Dominican Republic in 11.00s, with third going to Jamaica’s Jodean Williams in 11.09s.
Hill was victorious in the women’s 100m hurdles after clocking 12.81 seconds, with Alexandria Webster of the United States second in 12.86 and Jamaica’s Demisha Roswell third in 12.94s.
Blake picked up the other win on the track after easing to a wind-aided 9.84 (+2.2 mps) in the men’s 100m. Tate Taylor of the United States was second in 9.98, with third going to Jamaica’s Rohan Watson in 9.99.
Thomas-Dodd had a winning heave of 19.12m in the women’s shot put, while countrywoman Lloydrica Cameron was third with 18.41m.
Gayle won the men’s long jump with a distance of 8.11m.

Shericka Jackson was third overall in the women’s 300m after finishing second in her heat behind Sada Williams of Barbados in 36.51. Williams’ winning time was 36.23. Kenondra Davis of the United States won her heat in 36.44s for second overall.
