PANATHINAIKOS have reportedly submitted an offer for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Ibrox all summer and could be a replacement for Fotis Ioannidis who, according to reports in Greece, is on the verge of joining Sporting in a €25million deal.
And it looks as though Dessers’ time at Ibrox is finally coming to an end after the Gers moved to sign ex-Aberdeen forward Bojan Miovski from Girona.
SunSport also understand Russell Martin’s men are close to sealing an £8m move for 21-year-old Everton striker Youssef Chermiti.
Rangers have sold Hamza Igamane to Lille after his stunt in Paisley, and Dessers could soon follow him out of the club with just two days left of the transfer window remaining.
Dessers was first linked with a switch to AEK Athens in June with the forward supposedly having agreed terms with the Greek club.
Rangers and AEK seemingly couldn’t agree on a transfer fee, with the Greeks not meeting his £5m price tag.
Russell Martin later revealed in July they “had turned down a bid that was nowhere near the club’s valuation” after he sat out of the pre-season friendly against Club Brugge.
Feyenoord and Verona have also been credited with an interest in the Nigerian in this window.
Speculation about Dessers’ future at Ibrox intensified after the 1-1 draw with St Mirren in Paisley, when Martin conceded Dessers could still leave the club.
He said: “While he’s made it really clear what his intention would be or what his desire would be, there’s been no problem – none.
“He trains properly, he performs with the team, he’s been great. But everyone’s different, every human being’s different.
“He’s quite experienced, some of the guys are really young.
“The situation will be cleared up in the next ten days and I’m quite calm about it.
“Cyriel’s not asked to leave. He’s not asked to leave once. But we’ve had a lot of discussions about it so we’ll see what happens.”
On Saturday, Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos posted on X: “Panathinaikos made an offer to Rangers for Cyriel Dessers and now are favourites to sign him.”
In separate tweet earlier, he said: “AEK Athens contacted Rangers again about Cyriel Dessers.”
Dessers joined Rangers in the summer of 2023 from Italian outfit Cremonense and has scored 52 goals in 115 games for the club.
