UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is set to undergo surgery on the “nightmare” eye injury he suffered against Ciryl Gane.
Aspinall was left unable to see just 35 seconds into his October title fight following an eye poke from challenger Gane.

In November, the Brit from Wigas was diagnosed with “significant traumatic bilateral Brown’s syndrome” and persistent double vision.
So Aspinall has revealed he will have surgery as a result.
He said on Paddy Pimblett’s YouTube channel: “It’s been a bit of a long process because with other injuries they fix them straight away.
“But with eyes, because it’s obviously risky, they try and let them heal naturally.

“So we’re getting surgery. It will keep me out for a little bit. I’m not sure how long.
“We’ve got a meeting about it soon. It’s been a slow process – a nightmare, to be honest.”
Referee Jason Herzog ruled Gane’s eye poke to be accidental – with the bout ending in a no-contest.
But Aspinall, 32, argued: “Three times he did it in one round.
“The points deduction should be sacked off. First one is an accident; second one is on purpose.”
Aspinall has already had one eye surgery and revealed in December that he does plan to fight again if he recovers.
He said: “That’s the plan. By the time this is coming out, I’ve probably had surgery on one side already.
“Next surgery is coming mid-January. We’re working towards getting back, and that’s the plan.”
