The U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Federation is pleased to announce that the USVI U20 Men’s National Team will travel to the British Virgin Islands on Jan. 14, for a five-day training camp and a series of international friendly matches against the BVI U20 Men’s National Team.
The camp forms a key part of the team’s preparation as the program continues to evaluate and develop its U20 player pool ahead of upcoming international competition. The technical staff will use the camp to assess player performance in a competitive environment while strengthening team chemistry and tactical understanding.
Assistant Technical Director Dante Nicholas will be part of the traveling staff, providing leadership and technical oversight throughout the camp. The opportunity to compete against regional opposition will allow players to demonstrate their readiness at the international level and challenge themselves against a higher standard of play.
When asked about the objectives of the camp and its importance to long-term player development, Nicholas emphasized the camp’s role in shaping the future of the program:
“Essentially, this camp is for the coaching staff to evaluate and solidify the U20 group that will be traveling to Nicaragua in February. The goal is to see whether players who we are seeing for the first time are up to the standard we want to set, and to see if players who have previously been part of the national setup can rise to the challenge and fight for another opportunity to represent the country.”
He also highlighted the diversity and balance within the squad:
“We have a group that includes players who competed in the U15 Concacaf Championship this past summer, and this camp will expose them to a higher level of competition within the U20 talent pool. At the same time, we have older players who are pushing for a place on the senior national team, which is the next step after the U20 tournament. This camp will be eye-opening for them and will give all players a clear understanding of what their next step is in terms of football.”
The USVISF remains committed to creating clear development pathways for young players while strengthening the national team program at every level. This training camp represents an important milestone in preparing the next generation of USVI footballers for international competition.
