Former Montego Bay United striker Jourdain Fletcher has officially signed with V-League team Hái Phong FC in Vietnam.
After an electrifying season with league leaders Montego Bay United (MBU), Fletcher is among two other players, Ugandan midfielder Moses Olaya and Canadian midfielder Camilo Minh, who will call Hái Phong their new home.
Hái Phong, on their website, say Fletcher’s addition is a solution to their attacking problems, while Fletcher believes the move is a sign that the work he has done to reinvent himself is paying off.
The 27-year-old came into this Jamaica Premier League season aiming to score 25 goals and securing a bigger contract.
He was well on his way to achieving the first of those goals, having scored 13 goals by the halfway mark.
Fletcher’s playing style is considered consistent with coach Chu Dinh Nghiem’s football philosophy, which prioritises adaptability.
Fletcher penned a heartfelt message thanking his supporters and teammates last weekend, and expressing his willingness to come back to Montego Bay United to repay the club’s loyalty.
Fletcher rejoined Montego Bay for a third time in 2024 after playing in Albania and has been the driving force behind their title push this season. Montego Bay United lead the Jamaica Premier League standings.
The striker’s resurgence also eaned him a recall to the Reggae Boyz. He was a starter in the team that played against Grenada in a friendly the Reggae Boyz won 1-0 last month.
His footballing career came to public attention during schoolboy football at Cornwall College. Notable among his achievements there was the role he played in bringing the team its 12th daCosta Cup title in 2016.
