There were thrilling victories in the third round of the LL Supply Ltd & Total Imports IBSC Tape Ball T20 Classic with matches played at Powells and Grammar School.
The day’s most exciting encounter saw VIP Squad survive a tremendous scare from Underdogs, winning by just two runs in a match that went down to the wire at Powells.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, VIP Squad posted a competitive 177 all out in 17.1 overs, built around a magnificent 73 from Demetri Lucas which contained eight boundaries and six maximums with Elroy Francis Jnr providing valuable support with 40 runs.
Underdogs’ bowling attack, led by the impressive Vishal Gobin, kept them in the hunt with his economical spell of three scalps.
The chase proved to be a thriller, with TG Underdogs falling agonizingly short at 175 for six from their full 20 overs. Xanden Hobson made 63 striking five boundaries and four sixes, while Orandel Boston (27) and Winter (20) provided crucial contributions.
In stark contrast to the first match’s drama, Brysons Bullets produced a clinical performance against Hanse-on Security Tech at Powells. After restricting Security Tech to just 105 all out in 19.5 overs, Bullets chased down the target with remarkable ease, reaching 111 without loss in just 9 overs.
Security Tech’s innings never gained momentum after losing the toss and being asked to bat first. Clinton Benjamin‘s 26 was their highest contribution, with Kerrique Mentore adding 16. The Bullets’ bowling attack shared the wickets effectively, with Andra Samuel‘s 2.5-over spell proving devastating as he claimed three for 11 runs. Kimani George (3 for 18) and Essan Warner (2 for 29) completed the demolition job.
Warner and Jahiem Norde came together to form an unbroken opening stand and made light work of the modest target, finishing the job with more than half the innings to spare.
At Grammar School, Buckleys 3J’s delivered the most comprehensive performance of the day, defeating Easy Pickings Mix Up by 65 runs after posting an imposing 191 for 10 in their full 20 overs.
Buckleys 3J’s batting display was a team effort, with Kadeem Henry leading the way with 47 runs. Steve Martin (31) and Kadeem Phillip (23) provided solid support as the team built a formidable total. Easy Pickings’ bowling attack worked hard, with Ahmad Ashaq claiming three for 18 in his economical four spell, while Alfred Jarvis also picked up three wickets.
The chase never really got going for Mix Up, despite a heroic effort from Frederick Floyd, who smashed 75 runs in a knock that included just one boundary but an incredible eleven sixes. His power-hitting kept the crowd entertained, but lacked the support needed for a successful chase as the team was bowled out for 126.
Buckleys 3J’s bowlers shared the spoils effectively, with Gregson Merrick standing out with figures of three for 10 from his four overs, including a maiden. Phillip (2 for 26) and Rodney Williams (2 for 36) provided excellent support.
The day’s highest team total came from PEL Dredgers, who demolished PMS by 106 runs after posting a massive 232 for five in their 20 overs. This commanding performance showcased some of the tournament’s finest batting displays.
Three Dredgers batsmen reached half-centuries in a dominant team performance. Tyrone Williams Jr remained unbeaten on 64, his innings featuring one boundary and eight sixes. Tanez Francis contributed 61 with four fours and five sixes, while Glenton Williams added 52 to the total. The trio’s partnership building and power-hitting left PMS bowlers searching for answers.
PMS’s chase never threatened the target, with the team bowled out for 126 in 16.2 overs. Adrian Barron‘s 30 was their highest contribution as Dredgers’ bowlers maintained the pressure throughout. Williams completed an excellent all-round performance with three for 22, while Loy Weste (2/17) and Williams Jnr (2/17) supported effectively.
