Wadadli United FC, for the second straight week, were crowed champions of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Female Knockout Classic after easily dispatching of Cutting Edge 3-0 in the final held at the body’s Technical Center on Sunday.
It means that United would have won two of the three instalments of the classic with the opening round of the tournament captured by Trendsetters three weeks ago.
On their way to Sunday’s final, United had the better of Lady Masters 3-0 in the semis after having beaten Cutting Edge 1-0 in the prelims.
Meanwhile, Cutting Edge enjoyed a one-nil triumph over Trendsetters after advancing from the Prelims against Young Warriors who did not show for the contest.
Meanwhile, Wadadli FC players dominated the individual awards with national striker, Gabrielle DeSouza named MVP. Arian Whyte was adjudged Best Goal keeper; Jada Benjamin Best Midfielder; K’Niece Browne Best Striker and Jahnirah Hodge as Best Defender. Each of the players received cash prizes of EC$200.
For winning the tournament, Wadadli United FC were awarded $2500 with second placed Cutting Edge walking away with $1500. Teams will now turn their attention to the league slated to kick off in August.
