Former West Indies and Leeward Islands all-rounder Hayden Walsh Jr has withdrawn from the Antigua and Barbuda senior men’s training squad just 24 hours after he had been included in an 18-member outfit.
The Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA), earlier this week, named a training squad as they jumpstart preparations for the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) (Mixed Format) Tournament scheduled for October 25 to November 1 in St Kitts.
One day later, the body issued a second press release informing stakeholders that the Liberta Blackhawks player has “declined an invitation for selection” and further “indicated his intention to represent Montserrat” during the sub-regional tournament.
Observer media reached out to Walsh Jr who declined to comment on his decision. The ABCA’s release did not indicate whether a replacement for Walsh Jr will be named.
Leading the national team selections is recently contracted Cricket West Indies (CWI) player and wicketkeeper batter, Jewel Andrew. Also included is recent West Indies senior men’s debutant in the T20 format Karima Gore while spinner Micah McKenzie, who ended the 2025 Breakout League as the leading bowler with 12 wickets in six matches, will also vie for a spot in the final squad.
Full training squad: Demari Benta, Bartlette Henry, Kofi James, Elroy Francis Jr., Karima Gore, Jewel Andrew, Kelvin Pitman, Rahkeem Cornwall, Michael Greaves, Kadeem Henry, Micah Mckenzie, Ishmael Peters, Uri Smith, Javier Spencer, Essan Warner, Glenton Williams and Tyrone Williams Jr.
