- 36 medals secured over McSween’s 3-year tenure
- McSween appointed Head Coach of CARIFTA Games national team
- Will lead coaching unit widely credited with helping usher in “Golden Era” of Grenadian junior athletics
Consistency continues to drive Grenada’s athletics programme, and the Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) is leaning firmly into that formula. For the 4th consecutive year, Wayne McSween, the tactical mastermind behind Ace Track Club, has been officially appointed Head Coach of the national team for the 2026 CARIFTA Games.
A highly respected coach, McSween will once again lead a coaching unit widely credited with helping usher in what many describe as a modern “Golden Era” of Grenadian junior athletics. The technical team includes: Danisha Brathwaite, Carol Evans, Naide Simon, Gary James, Ronald Charles, Benjamin Hood, Lyndon Cato, Olympian Kurt Felix and Paul Phillip, coach of 2-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist Anderson Peters.
Since taking the helm in 2023, McSween’s leadership has coincided with steady improvements in Grenada’s CARIFTA medal haul. Over his 3-year tenure, the Spice Isle has secured 36 medals in total.
Team Grenada’s CARIFTA medal count under Coach McSween
| Year | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Total | Host |
| 2023 | 2 | 4 | 4 | 10 | The Bahamas |
| 2024 | 1 | 6 | 6 | 13 | Grenada |
| 2025 | 2 | 6 | 5 | 13 | Trinidad & Tobago |
As Grenada prepares to host the region’s best young athletes once again, McSween said the team’s recent performances point to promising results on home soil.
“We saw them at the National Champs and at the InterCol Games. We saw the fight, the camaraderie, the competition, and we expect they will transfer that same energy into CARIFTA.”
He added,
“We anticipate beautiful, exceptional performances. Not only in the male division — we have some outstanding young female athletes who have already shown great potential. We look forward to strong performances that will impress audiences locally and abroad.”
With the 2026 Games approaching, the combination of McSween’s veteran experience and the motivation of competing at home sets the stage for what could be another standout CARIFTA showing for Team Grenada.
