Antigua and Barbuda’s spinning all-rounder Hayden Walsh Jr said he was disappointed after learning he had not been contracted or selected by the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons ahead of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Speaking recently on the PowettPlay Podcast with former West Indies and Leeward Islands opening batsman, Kieran Powell, Walsh questioned why others were given an opportunity while he was overlooked.
“Honestly, I also feel a little disappointed about that as well. Seeing others come in and get a chance over myself, especially that I haven’t had the opportunities in the past two years and when I have had the opportunities, I’ve done well. I sit and I wonder, at home, like, what have I done? Who have I, like, upset really and truly? Because opportunities are really hard to get by me and it’s especially disappointing when, not even my own people want to give me a fair opportunity,” he said.
Walsh was also recently omitted from a list of retained players issued by the Leeward Islands Hurricanes as they gear up for the regional Super50 set to bowl off later this year.
Admitting he struggled somewhat during the most recent Leeward Islands series, Walsh believes his previous performances should have been taken into consideration.
“The last series I played, I didn’t have the best series but that is off the back of having been leading wicket taker, joint with Sunil Narine; best all-rounder and that stuff so sometimes you just need a one or two series to get yourself integrated,” the player said.
Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, third on the standings in the CPL, are hunting a top four finish which would see them into the semifinal round of the competition.
