FOOTBALL pundit Michael Stewart has slammed Wilfried Nancy’s “pathetic coaching” after he was sacked by Celtic.
The Frenchman became the club’s shortest serving manager in their history on Monday, lasting just 33 days following a disastrous spell in charge.
The 48-year-old lost six of his eight games as Hoops boss and was axed after their 3-1 capitulation to city rivals Rangers.
His side conceded 18 goals in just eight games as he stuck to his adventurous 3-4-3 style and failed to keep a cleansheet during his short reign.
Some of Nancy’s backers have pointed to stats highlighting the amount of chances his side created and had they taken them he might have still been in charge.
But speaking on BBC Sportsound, Stewart dismissed those suggestions branding Nancy’s coaching as “pathetic”.

He said: “You can talk about systems, you can talk about tactics – this is basic.
“It doesn’t matter what system you play, it doesn’t matter about what tactics you employ, you cannot have a side like Celtic that is so exposed.
“It wasn’t just one game, two games, it was every game, against any opponent.
“They didn’t have to do anything inventive other than basically get the ball up to the other end of the park and they are running through on goal.
“That isn’t bad luck, that’s just pathetic coaching.”
Stewart believes the Hoops bought into the American hype and ‘marketeering’ about a manager who he says lacked the ‘basic fundamentals’.
Nancy arrived from Columbus Crew having won MLS coach of the year in 2024 and famously used the slogan ‘Impossible is an opinion‘ after clinching the MLS Cup.
Stewart said: “I heard a lot of the clips of Wilfried Nancy talking about ‘Impossible is an opinion’ that was pumped out by Columbus Crew.
“It’s not as if we are immune to that stuff here as well.
“But I do genuinely believe that Celtic bought into this marketeering hype about a guy that for me was shown to fundamentally lack the basics.”
Celtic have brought back Martin O’Neill to try to save their season with the legendary Hoops boss given the reins until the summer.
