Bernard “King Premier” Willock recorded a hattrick of wins while Jack Matthew had a double in the Antigua and Barbuda Draughts Association (ABDA) Cool & Smooth Invitational Draughts Tournament when action continued at the Gray’s Farm Community Center on Tuesday night.
Willock, one of the country’s top players, recorded comfortable wins against Matthew, Eustace “Zocio” Samuel and Amakusa Jeremiah to dominate play on the tournament’s second night.
He defeated Matthew by a 9-0 margin, beat Jeremiah also by a 9-0 margin before rounding off his success with a 7-1 triumph over Samuel. Meanwhile, Matthew enjoyed 7-1 triumphs over Samuel and Elvis Cordice.
In other match-ups on the night, Cordice defeated St Clair Josiah 5-2, Stevenson “Smoothie” Vital beat Tion Grant 6-3, Jerimiah defeated Grant 9-0 while Cordice and Vital played to a 3-3 draw.
On Monday, Gomes recorded back-to-back wins in the tournament, easily dispatching of Grant 7-1 in his opening contest before going on to defeat Vital by a similar 7-1 margin.
In other results on Monday, Willock blanked Josiah 9-0 while Vital rebounded to win his first game when he beat Samuel 5-2. There was victory as well for Matthew who beat Jeremiah 5-2. Marvin “Bruce” Gray outplayed Cordice to win 7-1.
Rounding off Monday night’s matches, Grant and Samuel played to a 4-4 tie while Josiah and Matthew also ended level on 4-4.
