Women in AI Bermuda has launched Spot The Harm, a technology series promoting responsible innovation by building local capacity to detect AI-related harms and strengthen ethics in the development and use of artificial intelligence.
The initiative convenes both technical and non-technical professionals from policy, finance, education and business to explore how AI systems can unintentionally reinforce bias, exclusion and systemic risk in Bermuda.
The series will culminate in the Spot The Harm AI Hackathon on March 14.
The event will be held at Bermuda College in the H100 Athene Lecture Theatre from 9am to 5pm.
Held on Pi Day (3.14), the event celebrates curiosity, problem-solving and applied learning, using AI to tackle real-world challenges while keeping human judgment and community impact at the centre.
“Spot The Harm is a celebration of the human side of technology — ensuring AI acts as a collaborative tool that supports, rather than replaces, thoughtful decision-making in our institutions and everyday lives,” Women in AI said.
The hackathon will feature curated panel discussions, hands-on breakout challenges, collaborative team working sessions, awards and of course, plenty of pie, all designed to move the conversation from abstract AI hype to practical, locally grounded solutions.
“Spot The Harm is about moving from simply talking about AI to embedding responsible practice — from awareness to accountability — so that innovation works for everyone in Bermuda,” a Women in AI Bermuda spokesperson said.
“By bringing diverse voices into the same room, we are creating a safe space to name harms, explore safeguards and co-design better ways forward.”
