By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Defending champions Yo Creek United are bracing up for another Final encounter with subchampions San Jose Pumas in the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) 2024-2025 Amateur 1st Division Closing Championship Final. The much-anticipated clash is set for Sunday, May 18, at the Louisiana Football Field, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 pm.
The final promises fireworks as the two top teams go head-to-head in a rematch of the Opening Championship, in which Yo Creek United defeated San Jose Pumas 5-3 on Sunday, December 15, 2024, to claim the title. This time around, San Jose Pumas are eager for revenge, while Yo Creek United look to cement their status as back-to-back champions.
Road to the Final
Yo Creek United secured their place in the grand finale despite a 2-1 loss to Mi Gente in their semifinal. With a 5-4 aggregate victory, the reigning champions demonstrated resilience, overcoming the absence of three key defenders—Luis Chi, Juan Diaz, and Amilcar Jones—who were handed lengthy suspensions following allegations of racial abuse in the first leg of their semifinal clash.

Meanwhile, San Jose Pumas fought tooth and nail to earn their spot. Their dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Progresso FC in the other semifinal saw them advance on goal average after their first-leg 0-0 draw. A stoppage-time goal from Giovanni Marin and an extra-time winner by Victor Novelo sealed their passage to the final.
A Championship Rematch
With tensions running high, the Final is expected to be a gripping contest between two of Orange Walk’s most formidable squads. San Jose Pumas will be determined to flip the script, while Yo Creek United—despite missing key players—will rely on their depth and experience to defend their crown.
Fans are expected to turn out in full force at the Louisiana Football Field, with entrance priced at $7.00.
