Defending Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championship (BSSAC) girls’ champions, The St Michael School will not be surrendering their title easily.
That’s the word from head coach Gabriel Burnett, who told Barbados TODAY that preparations were on track ahead of two days of competition in the Frank Blackman and Sada Williams Zone from March 19-20.
“We did pretty well at the Field Event Championships and we used the Relay Fest this year to prepare for BSSAC, so we’re pretty excited about what we can do this year.”
“It’s always harder to defend a title, but I can tell you that we’re very prepared to defend. We always go to every competition looking to win, so hopefully things will work out in our favor again this year,” Burnett said.
Among the teams looking to challenge for the titles this year is the Lodge School. According to coach Juquan Beckles, their preparation has also been going smoothly.

“We had a pretty decent showing at the Field Event Championships from last year. We would have only gained a few points last year, but this year we made a big comeback and going into the zones, we’re feeling confident.”
“Our strength lies on the track and within the junior field events that will be held in the zone championships, so with that we should make a good, strong showing this year,” Beckles said.
