Combermere leads both the boys’ and girls’ points tables at the end of the opening day of action in the Esther Maynard and Shane Brathwaite Zone of the DASANI BSSAC Championships.
Competing at the Usain Bolt Complex in the Barbados Light and Power Company sponsored zone, Combermere’s girls have so far amassed a total of 282 points, ahead of Springer Memorial on 250.5 and third placed Christ Church Foundation on 230.5 points.
The Alleyne School with 128 points and St George Secondary 93 points round out the top five.
Among the boys, Combermere also holds the lead on 261 points, ahead of St Leonard’s Boys’ on 212 points and third placed Christ Church Foundation on 188 points.
The Alleyne School on 136.5 points and St George Secondary on 121, are fourth and fifth respectively.
Alec Simmons of Comberemere established a new record in the Under-17 boys’ 1500m, clocking 4:22.62 to go well under the old mark of 4:26.16 set by Savion Hoyte of the Lester Vaughn School in 2019.
Two competitors in the Under-13 boys’ 200m went under the zonal record of 25.60 seconds set by Jayden Green in 2019.
Combermere’s Jace McClean established a new mark of 24.87 seconds, while Alex Jones-Ifill of St. Leonards (25.01 seconds), was also faster than the old mark.
Krystal Bentham of Combermere also set a new record in the Under-20 girls’ 400m, with her time of 55.40 seconds, bettering the old mark of 56.39.
In total 12 new records were established.
In the senior sprints, Nyema Taylor of Combermere set the fastest Under-20 girls’ 100m time of 12.27 seconds in timed final number one. Second place went to Dania Joseph-Niles of Frederick Smith Secondary (12.65 seconds), with Sariah Francis of Christ Church Foundation third (12.71 seconds).
The second timed final saw Zaria Gittens of Combermere crossing the line first in 12.35 seconds, with second place going to Kenisha Straughn of Christ Church Foundation (12.44 seconds), with Kashia Sealy-Bynoe of Lester Vaughn School third in 12.72 seconds.
The fastest Under-20 boy was Shamari Addison of Combermere, who crossed the line in 10.84 seconds in timed final number two. His time was marginally faster than that set by his teammate Dahrion Belgrave in the third timed final of 10.87 seconds. Third fastest overall was Jeremy Boyce of St. George Secondary who won the opening timed final in 11.11 seconds.
