In a groundbreaking move piloted by the Barbados Football Association (BFA), clubs across the island are set to drastically improve the administration of their financial affairs.
This has been revealed by BFA General Secretary, Nicholas Branker ahead of the association’s Club Development Clinic, which is set for the BFA’s Technical Centre on Saturday.
Branker told Barbados TODAY that members of the business community are lending their assistance in hosting the clinic.
He revealed that the BFA had partnered with Business Barbados and a number of banks and credit unions.
“We’re trying to assist clubs in the best way in terms of getting their clubs registered as a nonprofit organisation and then being able to set up bank accounts. We’ve heard the clubs constantly repeating that they’re really having some difficulties and will need some assistance in getting their governance together,” Branker said.
“So rather than them just doing a presentation, what we’re trying to do is to have them set up the companies there and then, so that we really make some strides in terms of helping the clubs.”
Branker said the move had been received positively by the clubs.
“We’ve had some of the clubs calling in and asking who is the best person we think that they should send and I think this is a good opportunity for me to clear that up. I know normally some of them will send their coaches, but who we want them to send is whoever is responsible or who will be the signatories at the various banks for your bank accounts and who has the relevant documentation in terms of getting the club registered.
“Business Barbados says they are really going to try with us so they’re going to bring their servers and what’s not to try to get it done in person, so that’s a really big step forward. We don’t want to have a presentation, then we have to go back, remember what was said and get it, try to put it through and then it’s kind of lost in the system,” Branker pointed out.
“So we really want to thank again the Prime Minister’s Cup and Business Barbados and all the other stakeholders from the banks and credit unions, for taking the time out on a Saturday, where they could be doing other things to really assist us in getting this moving forward.”
