  • Anguilla’s 2026 cycling season begins with two action-packed races

Anguilla’s 2026 cycling season began this past weekend with 45 riders tackling races across two challenging circuits.

A sea of enthusiastic supporters gathered at Ronald Webster Park in The Valley on Sunday, 15 February, as the Anguilla Cycling Association (ACA) formally opened proceedings.

The day began with a solemn yet uplifting tribute to the late Anguillan cyclist Dwayne Baird, as his bike, jersey and helmet were placed at the centre of the road in his honour.

Competitors circled the memorial as ACA president Terone Hodge-Carty led a prayer and brief tribute to Baird’s passion and legacy, which ended with the bell rung ten times in his honour.

The western fringe of the park then came alive as cyclists of all ages and categories representing Anguilla and St Martin/Maarten began their preparations.

The Senior cyclists took on the first loop that wove through The Valley, East End, Island Harbour via Long Path Road, then down to Welches, Deep Waters, Stoney Ground, and back to the park.

The Youth (Under-15) cyclists then took on a shorter circuit, climbing Long Path Road, through Mango Garden, descending to Deep Waters and on to Stoney Ground before finishing at the park.

The ACA hosted a live stream of the races on YouTube. See below:

In a press release on 18 February, ACA officials praised the seamless technical execution and announced plans to expand digital coverage for future races.

They also thanked the event sponsors, the Royal Anguilla Police Force, road wardens, volunteers, local cycling clubs, visiting teams, and all of the independent cyclists who took part.

Founded in 2000, the ACA is Anguilla’s governing body for competitive and recreational cycling, dedicated to developing talent, promoting cycling safety and fostering a vibrant cycling culture.
