Middle and long distance runners turned out in their numbers for the Hurricane Power Athletic Club’s 5K and 10K Walk and Run held over the weekend with some of the more recognized athletes claiming top spot across various distances.
Competing in the gruelling 10K event, Devon James captured the men’s division, clocking 39:25.44 second to finish just ahead of Junior Martin who won silver in a time of 39:32.44 seconds. Sergio Barnwell finished a distant third, registering a time of 1:03.33 seconds.
In the women’s division, Anika James ensured that the James name remained golden after claiming the top podium position with a time of 58:46.91 to finish just over a minute ahead of Sophie Brown who won silver in a time of 59:44.88. Kevinia Francis won bronze with a time of 1:03.33.
There was plenty of competition in the 5K event as well with national athlete, Kalique St. Jean, winning the men’s race with a time of 20:20.88. Everick Wiliams finished some three minutes out in the second position with a time of 23:38.88 while Stevon Gordon registered a time of 24:24.66 in the bronze medal position.
In the women’s equivalent, Nevaeh Eugene and Shea White were the only competitors, finishing first and second respectively.
Shamani Abrams (11:03.48) and Kadeedra Willock (12:23.70) were men’s and women’s winners respectively in the 2K run event.
The men’s 5K walk was taken by Jekemie Joseph in a time of 43:04.98 with Ernest Wilkinson in second with a time of 47:55.35. There were no women competitors.
