The Antigua & Barbuda Amateur Volleyball Association (ABAVA) Championship featured two decisive victories on Wednesday evening at the YMCA Sports Complex, with Da Squad and Storming Lions both securing impressive 3-1 wins in their respective divisions.
In the Women’s Division One competition, Da Squad beat the Royal Cruisers Volleyball Club in straight-sets with set scores of 25-8, 25-18, and 25-18.
Da Squad established their dominance early with a devastating 25-8 opening set that established the tone for the match. While Royal Cruisers showed improved resistance in the subsequent sets, Da Squad maintained control throughout, closing out both the second and third sets with identical 25-18 scorelines.
Storming Lions then recovered from a first-set deficit to defeat Renegades 3-1 in the Men’s Division One bracket, with set scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, and 25-17.
Renegades started strong, edging out a closely contested opening set 25-23 to take an early lead. However, Storming Lions quickly regrouped and dominated the remainder of the match, winning three consecutive sets with identical 25-17 scorelines to secure the victory.
After dropping the first set, Storming Lions found their rhythm with more consistent passing and powerful attacking, allowing them to control the pace in the final three sets. Their defensive adjustments effectively neutralized Renegades’ offensive threats, limiting their scoring opportunities.
