Antiguan all-rounder and captain of the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Rahkeem Cornwall, believes that the complex Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method should be discontinued and that a simpler system should be employed when deciding the outcome of matches affected by rain and or other factors.
Speaking on the Good Morning Jojo Sports Show, Cornwall who last played for the West Indies Test team in February of 2023, held no punches when he said the method was too complicated and often negatively impacts the momentum of a game.
“Duckworth-Lewis hurt me over a couple of times and it’s something that we don’t have control over but I would like to see it come out of cricket to be honest. At one point you may want 30-plus runs from about four overs or even your last two overs but then you hear you want 60-plus from one over [after DLS] and I don’t know how they get that calculation so I just don’t see it,” he said.

The hard-hitting Cornwall who is set to turn out for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL), said many other players would support his call.
“I feel that if you have a pool [of players] you will get more yes votes to get it out of cricket than you’d get to make to stay but for me, at the end of the day and the overs have been bowled to constitute a game then you declare a winner,” he said.
The ICC formally adopted the DLS method, which is a formula to fairly calculate the winning side when inclement weather intervenes and the match is interrupted.
The method includes re-calculating totals when time is lost in the match.
