Veteran midfielder and captain of the Antigua and Barbuda senior men’s football team, Quinton Griffith, has been dropped ahead of Group A World Cup Qualifiers against Cuba and Honduras slated for June 6 and 10th.
Griffith, who has represented the Antigua and Barbuda Benna Boys since 2009, was notably missing from a list of 25 players selected to represent the twin-island state in the two matches with the clash against Cuba slated for the FA’s technical Center on June 6 while they play away to Honduras on the 10th.
In a letter reportedly written to the player, the ABFA informed Griffith of the decision to ‘pursue a different approach for the upcoming campaigns’ and that the intended approach ‘does not include your name.’

The letter went on to add that the ‘decision is in no way a reflection of your ability or your value to the national set-up. Rather, it is part of a broader technical strategy intended to shape the future of the team.’
When contacted for comment, Griffith said he is unaware of any disciplinary matter against him and that the development left him in shock. Observer media also reached out to the ABFA’s technical director, Sowerby Gomes, who said the matter will be addressed by newly appointed head coach, Jacques Passy, in due course.
Meanwhile, team selection is headlined by the inclusion of striker Raheem Deterville, midfielder Shalon Knight and a number of other experienced players.
Team Antigua and Barbuda is yet to win a game in Group A after two showings.
