Karima Gore and Rahkeem Cornwall led Antigua and Barbuda Master Blasters to their second win on Day 2 of the inaugural Leeward Islands T20 Cricket Festival at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium on Sunday afternoon when they overpowered Nevis by six wickets.
Batting first, Nevis were restricted to 122 for eight from their allotted 20 overs with Cornwall being the chief wicket-taker with three for 24 from his four overs while Javier Spencer grabbed two for 18. One wicket apiece was taken by Nino Henry, Micah McKenzie and Hayden Walsh Jr. Opening batsman Ross Powell scored his second half-century of the competition with a quality knock of 50 from 54 balls while Colin Archibald chipped in with 19 and Adrian Williams made 16.
When their turn came to bat, the Master Blasters got to the target in a hurry reaching 123 for four in 13.5 overs as Gore top-scored with an unbeaten 44 from 23 balls while CWI Breakout League MVP Kofi James scored a sixless 35 from 27 balls which contained six fours. Kian Pemberton continued his recent good form from the Cool and Smooth T20 Tournament in St Kitts with two for 16.

In the day’s other completed matches, Anguilla defeated St Kitts by 13 runs as Jahmar Hamilton top-scored for Anguilla with 62 from 51 deliveries to help set a challenging target of 157 for four, while Cameron Pennyfeather led the St Kitts reply with 65 runs from 39 balls, striking seven fours and three sixes – but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
Combined Islands were victorious over Combined Virgin Islands in a nailbiter that saw them winning by seven runs. Batting first, the Combined posted 126 all out with captain Daniel Doram stroking 32 and Ziwandi Whyte cracking 31 as Samuel Jones and Aviskhar Sewkarran grabbed three wickets each. Michael Palmer led Combined Islands from the front taking two for 17 with the assistance of Shernyl Burns (2/20) and Stevel Rodney (2/20). Sewkarran top scored for the Virgin Islands with 34 while Ameri Hinds made 23 but they fell short of the target.
The festival will resume on Tuesday, with the home side taking on Anguilla at 11am in a top-of-the-table clash with both teams winning their opening matches. Then Combined Islands will meet St Kitts at 3pm for the second match of the day. Nevis, still seeking their first win of the competition, will come up against the Combined Virgin Islands at 7pm.
