History was made last Friday, as St Peters Primary School captured their first-ever championship title in the Cool and Smooth Joma Caribbean Primary School Cup, while Freemansville Primary School dominated the girls’ division to claim the 2025 crown.
In a thrilling boys’ final, St Peters Primary School defeated New Winthropes Primary 1-0 in a tightly contested match that went down to the wire. The decisive moment came just three minutes before the final whistle when Johnathan Duberry found the back of the net to secure St Peters’ historic first championship victory.
The match was a testament to both teams’ defensive prowess, with New Winthropes’ goalkeeper Jailen Knight earning recognition as the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper despite being on the losing side. Knight’s outstanding performances throughout the competition kept his team in contention right until the final moments.
However, the day belonged to St Peters’ star striker Duberry, who capped off a remarkable tournament by claiming both the Most Goals award and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honor. Duberry’s tournament statistics were nothing short of spectacular – 20 goals in 10 matches, including four hat-tricks, establishing him as the tournament’s standout performer.
In the boys’ third-place playoff, Pigotts Primary School secured the bronze medal with an impressive 7-1 victory over Parham Primary School. The match showcased the depth of talent in the tournament, with Pigotts’ Karique Martin leading the scoring with four goals. Jermajesty Morris, Jayquan Hunte, and Nicholi George each contributed a goal to the victory, while Keaton Kellman scored Parham’s lone reply.
The girls’ final showcased attacking football at its finest, with Freemansville Primary School securing a convincing 4-1 victory over Five Islands Primary School. The match was effectively decided by the brilliant performance of Gimel Samuel, who netted a hat-trick to lead her team to glory.
Samuel’s three goals in the final brought her tournament total to six, earning her both the Most Goals award and the MVP title. Her teammate Jadoya Bowen contributed the fourth goal to complete Freemansville’s dominant display.
Five Islands Primary, despite the defeat, showed great character throughout the tournament, with Karima Toulon scoring their consolation goal in the final. The team can be proud of their journey to the championship match.
Behind Freemansville’s success was goalkeeper Janella Joseph, who was named Best Goalkeeper in the girls’ division. Her consistent performances throughout the tournament provided the solid foundation that allowed her team’s attacking talents to flourish.
