After months of public speculation, the Cabinet announced on Friday that Dr. Colin Greene will assume the role of Antigua and Barbuda’s new Sports Commissioner.
The veteran educator, who has served as Principal of Princess Margaret School (PMS) for nearly 23 years, will officially step down from his educational role on July 1st, and will assume his sports administration duties on August 1st, thereby replacing former West Indies captain Sir Richie Richardson.
Dr. Greene’s appointment represents a significant transition from education to national sports leadership. During his distinguished tenure at PMS, he has transformed the institution into one of the country’s premier secondary schools while building an impressive athletic program that has dominated local competition.
Under his leadership, PMS has captured multiple titles in both male and female categories of the Antigua and Barbuda Inter-School Track and Field Championship. Additionally, his commitment to sports extends beyond winning trophies – he established the school’s annual Hall of Fame ceremony to honour former students who have achieved sporting excellence, creating a culture that celebrates athletic achievement alongside academic success.
The school’s athletic teams have also gained regional recognition in 2024, competing at the Schools Relay championships in Trinidad and Tobago, demonstrating the quality of athletic development fostered under Dr. Greene’s guidance.
The Cabinet has expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Greene’s outstanding contributions to education, noting his lasting impact on generations of students through exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment.
His reputation for tenacity and ambitious approach to both sports and education has made him a respected figure in the country.
