Two national track & field coaches and former athletes, have labelled a decision by national sprinter Cejhae Greene to transition from MVP International (USA) to MVP Jamaica, “the right move”.
Greene made the switch in September last year, leaving the USA where he had been under the guidance of coach Henry Rolle since 2020 for Jamaica, where he now trains with renowned coach, Stephen Francis.
Coach Teddy Daley, with whose PSE Track Club Greene trained before leaving for college in the USA, said he always thought the athlete needed to change his approach in some areas.
“When I look at his training programme, there are a couple of things that I disagreed with. In my humble opinion, there were some areas where I think needed to put a little more work in and he has been doing that so I think the move as a good one and we may not have seen it yet but in very short time, we are going to see the benefits of that,” he said.
The move is seemingly already benefiting the Antiguan as, in March, he clocked a personal best of 6.59 seconds to win bronze at the World Indoor Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland.

National coach and owner of the Phoenix Track Club, Kesswin Anthony, backed the move as well, adding that Greene is in good hands with coach Francis.
“You don’t have much years in track & field and when you get to a certain level you need to be hitting a certain time, especially in the 100 which is so competitive so I think it was a good move. If it was too late … I don’t know but I think it was a good move and that’s my opinion. Stephen Francis is one of the most recognized coaches in the world. We see what he is doing with the Clayton twins and Kishane Thompson and even in the past with Shelly-Ann and Asafa Powell so I think it’s a good move,” he said.
Greene holds the Central American & Caribbean Games (CAC) record of 10.00 seconds in the 100 meters, which is set in July of 2018 in Colombia.
Several top athletes have represented the MVP Track Club in Jamaica, including Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Asafa Powell, and Tajay Gayle. The club is currently the hub for twins Tina and Tia Clayton, Sherika Jackson and Kishane Thompson.
