There were wins for Antigua Ballers and Combined Express on opening day of the Mahijah Davis Basketball Academy (MDBA) Summer Invitational when action kicked off at the JSC Basketball Complex on Thursday night.
Playing in the opening clash, Antigua Ballers were led by Yohan Nicholas who sank 30 points, grabbed 25 rebounds, had two steals and three blocks as they enjoyed a blowout 99-29 victory over Hoopers. Nathan Matthew was also in fine form for the victors, sinking 20 points, grabbing five rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Elijah Charles contributed to the winning effort with 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and seven steals while Tajahron Davis added 12 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

In a losing effort, Elewa Silston had eight points and six rebounds for Hoopers.
In the night’s feature encounter, Combined Expressed defeated Bajan Ballers 91-72 to open their campaign with a win.
Derick Perez led the charge for Combined Express with 27 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Elijah Charles contributed with 19 points, six rebounds, six assists and seven steals. Rounding off the scoring for the victors were Erije Joseph with 16 points and Gabriel DeSuza with 12 points, both also grabbing seven rebounds.
Darren Massiah was the top scorer for Bajan Ballers with a game-high 29 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Ari Mottley added 17 points and 12 rebounds to the effort.
