Nepal secured their first-ever victory against a Full Member nation, defeating West Indies by 19 runs in Sharjah to mark a historic milestone in their cricket journey.
After losing both openers early to finish 2-2 after 3.1 overs, Nepal recovered through captain Rohit Paudel (38) and Kushal Malla. The pair added 58 runs before both fell to debutant leg-spinner Navin Bidaisee, who claimed 3-29. Jason Holder (4-20) picked up three wickets in the 19th over, but Nepal reached a competitive 148-8.
Kyle Mayers started the chase with a boundary but was run out by Kushal Bhurtel’s direct hit in the second over. Despite Ackeem Auguste hitting two sixes, West Indies struggled against Nepal’s spinners after the powerplay.
Captain Rohit Paudel and Lalit Rajbanshi bowled tightly in the middle overs, conceding just 16 runs while taking two wickets. Brilliant fielding from Dipendra Singh Airee ran out Keacy Carty, and when Jason Holder fell for 5, West Indies’ chase effectively ended.
The victory marked Nepal’s first win of a bilateral series against a Full Member and their first T20I victory against West Indies. It was a complete team performance with six batters hitting sixes, six bowlers taking wickets, and exceptional fielding throughout.
Despite two dropped catches of Akeal Hosein in the 18th over, Nepal held their nerve to secure a famous 19-run victory that will be remembered as a watershed moment in their cricket development. (Cricinfo)
