Reigning Champions Sandals were sizzling on Saturday evening setting the tone for what would be a wonderful night of basketball action in the Cool & Smooth ABBA Business Basketball League at the JSC Sports Complex. With shooting led by Keroi Lee (30) and T-Shawn Lewis (23), the titleholders put the Transport Board to bed with a scoreline of 87-61. They received back up support from Selassie Brathwaite who contributed 15 points as Sandals showcased their depth and firepower. Unfortunately, it was a struggle for their opponents to keep pace despite a strong showing from the ever-playing veteran Marlon Charles, who recorded an impressive double-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists. Ariel Quallis chipped in 12 points and Kelvin Simon added 10, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Sandals’ relentless offensive pressure.
The second match saw Richie’s Shooterz living up to their name with a stunning 98-point performance, crushing SLBMC by 44 points in the evening’s most lopsided affair. The duo of Nickon McGregor and Tajahron Davis was virtually unstoppable, each pouring in 24 points. Davis complemented his scoring with an outstanding all-around game, dishing out seven assists and swiping six steals. Teammates Devorn Benjamin added 19 points while Jaleyle Joseph contributed 14 points and four assists. SLBMC’s Nigel Joseph (13 points) and Naeem Joseph (11 points) tried to keep their team competitive, but the offensive firepower of Richie’s Shooterz proved too much to handle
The closest game of the night saw Anjo Wholesale edge Sledge’O Ballers by a single point in a heart-stopping finish. Steven Matthew led Anjo with 18 points, while Jesus Emmanuel impressed with an all-around show scoring 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals as Derick Perez matched his points tally in the narrow victory. The Ballers nearly pulled off the upset behind Leroy Percival‘s game-high 23 points and seven rebounds. Harry Jules contributed 18 points and Terry Roberts added 14 points with seven rebounds, but it just wasn’t quite enough to overcome Anjo’s balanced attack.
