Team Antigua and Barbuda, led by 16-year-old Stuti Kashyap, excelled at the OECS Table Tennis Smash held from November 7-9 in Grenada, claiming two gold and one silver medals across various competitions.
Kashyap served her way to gold in the women’s singles competition before teaming up with Mekhi Simmons to claim the country’s second gold, this time in the mixed doubles category. Antigua and Barbuda went on to win silver in the women’s doubles category when Kashyap partnered with Martinique’s Aneis Miredin to defeat all of their challengers.
The Antigua and Barbuda Table Tennis Association (ABTTA) heralded the efforts of the team, pledging to ramp up preparation and training methods in an effort to bring new talent to the fore.
“We will redouble our efforts to introduce and train more young girls and women in the sport. Stuti’s success is a clear reminder of the importance of balanced representation in our national programs. Special thanks to the Antigua and Barbuda National Olympic Committee (ABNOC) for their continued and valuable support in helping our athletes compete and grow on the regional stage.”
Full squad: Mekhi Simmons, John Duncan, Barrington Loague and Stuti Kashyap. The team was managed by Tritia George.
